Sewing Rules Tutoring

Goal: To remove your perplexities about the what’s and how’s of hand sewing and help you soar into a lifetime of creativity with an energizing clarity to create an endless variety of projects!

I am passionate about passing on what I have learned about sewing to learners of all ages! I focus on teaching you how to sew, so that when you are finished you can decide what to sew!

I am currently ONLY taking new students for my Foundations of Hand Sewing course. (See below for a detailed description of the course.)

The next offering for this course is Spring 2026.

Check back here in November 2025 to see more details about the schedule and costs and how to register. Or, feel free to contact me to express your interest and I’ll be happy to email you with the details as they become available!

The goal of Foundations of Hand Sewing tutoring sessions is not to teach you everything there is to know about hand sewing. There’s always more to learn! My vision is to equip you with the core skills and essential knowledge so that you can go forth to confidently pursue any hand sewing project you set your mind to do!

When you complete the Sewing Rules Foundations in Hand Sewing Course, you will have mastered the foundations of hand sewing and will be ready to confidently “leave the nest” and “fly solo” on a wide variety of hand sewing projects.

What will we make?

Cardboard cut-outs? Fabric strips? Glue? Don’t let the humble nature of our starting projects fool you. The unassuming elements are intentional. They are intended to disarm any “I can’t do this” feelings you might have about learning the art of hand sewing. They also allow you to focus on the process itself and not have to worry about where your needle went, how to untangle knotted thread, or where to hold a floppy piece of fabric.

All Sewing Rules sessions are more focused on learning and mastering the process of hand sewing than they are what product you create along the way.

As you master each skill, you will move forward into working with new tools and materials—including different kinds of cloth and needles.
